My husband and I adopted our 7 month old puppy Reggie right before Christmas, and knew we needed some help pretty much immediately. He was such a sweet boy, but had no "off" switch. He was very toy fixated and would nip and bite at us when he was frustrated from not getting what he wanted. No amount of stern "no's", or pretend yelping helped him calm down. It was clear that he was having trouble self regulating. We started with 3 weeks of day training in Old City, and we quickly saw so much progress that I didn't think was possible. We ended up opting for the full 6 week program, and it was such an easy choice to make, after seeing how much Reg was getting out of the classes. He was able to release his toys on command now and turn his brain off of the fixation from the toy to us when we asked. He learned how to quickly go from play, to relaxation, and we saw a huge improvement on his impulse control skills. Plus we were learning just how much rest and sleep this poor puppy really was needing on a daily basis in order to make better decisions during waking hours. Our trainer, Britt, really is the best kind of dog trainer there is. She's so incredibly knowledgeable, and compassionate. She looped us in every day about Reggie's progress, and I always looked forward to her daily updates and videos. Our 1:1 classes gave us so much clarity on what they were working on, and how to level up at home. She was always willing to answer our questions, and when I would over-fixate on socializing him with other dogs (trauma from owning a reactive dog for years before), she explained how socialization really means neutrality. It was a big learning experience for our whole family, not just the pup! We are officially an OpBarks family through and through, and I will always recommend them to anyone with a dog. Reggie might have graduated, but he'll always be a return customer, leveling up as he gets older and wiser.
Choosing Found for my dog’s board and train was the best decision I’ve made for my dog and me. My dog Hodges is a rescue Belgian Malinois, and he had a particularly severe case of reactivity and anxiety. Because of this, I was overwhelmed and at a loss with how to train him. After comparing multiple board and train facilities, I settled on Found. The people at Found are the absolute best. They truly care about what they do and about what is best for each dog and owner. Hodges mainly worked with trainers Justin and Julianna, and they did such an amazing job (honestly, they worked miracles). Everyone in my life who had known Hodges before and after training has commented about how he is a different dog, for the absolute better. He had so much reactivity and separation anxiety, and it was creating a lot of anxiety for me as well. Hodges is now so much calmer, but is still his goofy self and is much more confident. Justin and Julianna helped me to learn handling skills with Hodges to continue after the board and train program ended. I loved having the weekly sessions while my dog was in training so I could see his progress and learn how to implement what my dog had been taught. This has helped me to transfer these skills when Hodges returned home. The staff at Found emphasize training the owner in handling skills, which I did not see at other training facilities. Like others have said, you also have to put in the work once your dog comes home, but it is totally worth it! I cannot recommend Found enough if you are looking for a board and train facility for your dog. I absolutely love all the report cards and updates they share. Hodges recently went back for another board and train program to refresh some of his skills from his first program, and to learn more advanced obedience. I am so glad Hodges and I found Found. Downtown Dogs has seriously changed our lives and our Mini Aussie Louie's life for the better. Before training, Louie was very leash reactive/ aggressive towards other people and dogs. Going for walks used to be very anxiety-provoking for us, especially living in a pet-friendly condo building with dogs everywhere! It got to the point where he started reacting and biting us during our walks and that's when we knew he needed intensive training. We scheduled a consultation and were immediately impressed by knowledge and passion that Ari had for training. We felt confident that Downtown Dogs' team of trainers would help Louie build confidence and solidify foundational obedience skills for him to thrive in all settings. Having Louie attend the 3 week Board & Train program was the best decision we ever made. Louie was paired with Brooke, who is an INCREDIBLE trainer! She is patient, yet firm and has given us all the tools we need to be a successful team! Louie is still just as goofy and loving, but obedient and we no longer walk him in fear! We cannot thank Brooke and the staff at Downtown Dogs enough for the positive impact they have made on our lives. 1,000% recommend Downtown Dogs- they are worth the investment!
Absolutely superb place/ home to leave your pup safely while away. My dog Blu is a 215 lb. Great Dane. Blu loves The Wags Club and the other guests plus of course the human attendants. I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the most important businesses in the city. They’re ability to teach young pups - and their humans - how to exist safely and happily in this particular urban environment is a true service to every citizen. Mac, Erin and their team were spectacular when we first got our pup. He ended up getting quite sick before we were able to begin working with puppy prep and Erin was an incredible resource and support for us - she hadn’t even met our dog yet! She checked in every few days until he recovered, and was incredibly flexible in helping us adjust his start time and not miss critical socialization windows while he was tiny. We later continued with Outdoor Education - their “graduate program” - and it was incredible to learn from Ellie and Erin’s intuition. They understand dogs so well! He was very sad when it was finally time to move on - he loves them so so much (very much more than us…) Truly, our life with our dog would be dramatically different if it weren’t for puppy prep. We’re lucky they exist. There are no thanks sufficient enough.
Peace Love Dogs did a great job with our German Shepherd puppy. They focused on her chill skills and helped her learn commands easily. I would highly recommend them!
We have had a great experience with Scott at DC Dog Wizard! Our new rescue was having anxiety issues, fear based aggression and was not doing well calmly meeting other dogs. We ended up doing the training with both of our dogs so our older dog could brush up on skills as well. They both took to the training quickly and each week Scott was able to build on the skills we learnt the week before. The great thing about Scott's training is if you need a little brush up on training or just a little more structure after your training is done thats provided for you. We felt and still feel supported. With our second dog who already did well with commands we were still able to teach him new things and Scott gave us some additional fun tricks so he got a lot out of the training too. With Scott's help we were even able to teach Bentley to jump and balance on fire hydrants! What fun!
LP 24/7 is such a blessing for me and my pup. He’s always thrilled to go and clearly enjoys everyone who works there. I’m super thankful for the nurse extended hours, too! There are a few nurses I work with directly who also drop their dogs here. We love to check the Instagram feed for posts of our pups. It’s an awesome facility, and I highly recommend it! We had a great experience with Elisa! She is great at communication, punctual and knows her stuff when it comes to dogs. This was our first puppy and she walked us through every step and was very clear on what we needed to do to get her trained. Our dog responded well to Elisa’s protocol and we are very happy with the results. I would for sure recommend Elisa to anyone with a dog that needs some help.
When i tell you, Jeff works miracles- you better believe it! He has made what we and other trainers couldn’t do in 1 hour. He not only understands dogs, but cats too. We have tried other trainings and nothing sticks. Jeff is knowledgeable, flexible with his schedule, and dedicated to helping solve any pet needs. Our cat and dog are comfortable in each others precense because of 1 hour with Jeff. He provides you with the tools for long term success. I cannot rave enough about what he has done.
Scott and Barbara are an AMAZING team! They helped soothe our concerns while providing realistic expectations. We learned about the source of our dog’s behavior, his fears, how he thinks, and how to address problematic behaviors. What sets Scott apart is his ability to tailor methods to our dog's personality and needs. He doesn't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, recognizing that every pup is unique. The positive reinforcement techniques have fostered trust and strengthened the bond between our dog and us. But the talents extend beyond just training dogs; Scott is equally adept at coaching owners. With gentle guidance and practical advice, he has empowered us to be the best possible leaders for our dog. After a few sessions, we have noticed improvement in his anxiety in the apartment and less barking. His equipment recommendations are fantastic game changers and has helped me gain control of walking my giant dog! We are so grateful for his assistance and hopeful for more positive changes to come. We enrolled in Puppy Basics Level I with Avi. There were four puppies in the class- which is full! Avi was attentive and tailored his instructions to each specific puppy and their behaviors. Avi was very knowledgeable about specific breed behavior and communicated clearly with class follow-up emails. The facility is clean, easily accessible (with parking), bright and well equipped. We really enjoyed our Puppy Basics class! This is a great place to get started with your obedience training in a friendly and low pressure environment.
The entire staff at DPT is incredible. I would recommend highly to anyone with a new dog. I adopted a 7 lb chihuahua mix around 4 months ago. When I brought him home he was scared of everything and couldn't walk on a leash or go up and down stairs. After about 24 hours I was convinced I had ruined my life and found DPT online. Natasha was on the phone with me as soon as I sent an email and she enrolled my dog in Dan Camp the same day. When I returned two weeks later I was amazed at the progress the trainer had made. My dog was walking (perfectly) on a leash and going up and down stairs like a pro. Now we walk 2.5 miles everyday and he LOVES to run up and down the stairs in my apartment. My once fearful dog happily joins us when we go out to eat, go shopping, or walk down Chestnut Street. After 5 weeks he completed camp and was sent home full time but started to develop separation anxiety (my partner and I live in a small apartment and WFH) and cried anytime he was in the crate during the day or left home alone. This behavior was disturbing to my neighbors, so once again I found myself reaching out to Natasha for help. They enrolled my dog in another week of camp (at no additional cost to me) and I received a personal phone call from Dan with advice on how to change my behavior and stop this issue. A couple of weeks later and it's like I have a new dog at home. Yesterday I was able to leave all afternoon and my dog didn't cry once. The team at DPT are experts in dog behavior and they really care about dogs and about their customers. I know 100% that when I drop my dog off for training or boarding he is in the best hands. This program is worth the investment and I am so grateful to Natasha, Dan, Bryn, Sidney, and all of the trainers and staff for their help. They truly go above and beyond and thanks to them my dog is now thriving :)
I have a 100 pound 7 month old great dane puppy in need of training. I found zoomroom by accident and visited and signed up for puppy classes. I love their gentle & kind training philosophy and it works. My dog is not easy as not food or praise driven but he likes it and is pretty quick to learn. I have had 3 different trainers so far and all excellent. I am looking forward to the day when he can start agility. I love zoom room.
Jason worked with us and he was awesome 👏 He answered our questions and no question was too little. He helped us to make all the necessary accommodations so Lola our 6 month old Doberman can walk next to my son who has a motorized wheelchair. He taught us how to train Lola how to sit, stay, down, place, heal, okay May be missing something but overall our experience was really great 👍🏻 thanks Jason
This place is great. AIP was recommended to me by both my dog's rescue organization and his vet, and thank goodness. Everything is based on positive reinforcement, which is essential when you have a nervous pup like mine. The basic class was really helpful, Jennifer was great with helping individualize training as much as possible in a group session. The facility was nice and clean, and the class wasn't too crowded at all. The best though, is the private training. Private training is always pricey, but their rates are great for the amount of time you get, and they have a discount for rescue dogs! I think that's awesome! It's totally worth it. My dog was having some pretty big issues, but Rachel was able to swoop in and save the day! She knew just what was going on and what to do about it. All of the issues we were having were addressed, and I was given tons of amazing training tools to help my little guy out. She made the plan simple and easy to follow, and I started seeing results much quicker than I anticipated. It really has made my relationship with my dog so much better, thank you! If you want training to be a positive experience for you and your dog, this is the place.
My dog and I started going to the group classes they offer. We were struggling with leash training and reactivity in particular. Marlene, the trainer leading our group class, identified the specific issues we were having and recommended a private in home lesson to be trained on new equipment. I was hesitant at first but we finally booked a private training session with Felicia. I was very pleased to learn that Marlene and Felisha had already communicated prior to the private in home training so we wasted no time getting to work. Felisha thoroughly helped us become familiar with the equipment and went above and beyond even after the session to answer any questions I had. Both trainers are very knowledgeable in their field and work as a team providing the best level of training we could ask for. Highly recommend. My dog has made a tremendous amount of progress in just a little over a month and we look forward to continuing our training with applause your paws.
Not sure where to begin ... I've always had a dog with me. My last dog was a Lab that I got at 8 weeks old. I trained and raised him to be a good-mannered dog. After 8 years he contracted cancer and we had to put him down. I didn't want another dog for a good while, but I had an opportunity to save a pittie mix from a kill shelter. It was obvious from the start that she was mistreated. She feared everything and everyone, from car doors closing to the ceiling fan being on. I was over my head, I've never adopted an adult dog before and she clearly had issues that I didn't know how to overcome. After doing my research, I contacted 3 dog trainers. 2 just threw prices at me and Sit Means Sit was only one who invited me to stop by for an evaluation. Obviously, we went with Sit Means Sit. They evaluated our dog, asked questions and listened to our concerns. I was impressed with Abby and Terra. Within a week, we saw the change with our dog and at the end of training her leash skills, recall and commands improved as well as her confidence. Very satisfied with SMS. We still take her now for daycare and will continue to do so. Totally recommend SMS. oh, and she loves the staff and gets excited every time we go back.
Simply awesome Team at Sit Means Sit! Our 7 year old German Shepherd as well as our family are so much better. Our pup took to the training quickly. With the most important part being our behavior in maintaining training and discipline. The staff is helpful, extremely knowledgeable, and accommodating to our busy schedule. The Immersion and Group classes are excellent programs, with Group classes being super fun and a great way to reinforce training in settings outside of our typical day. Great value for the investment for sure, no doubt we'll be back and advance our training with our pup once our initial program ends.

Jim has a wonderful knowledge of dogs' behaviours and how these can be, not necessarily changed, better understood by the owners. His professionalism in the way he handles the dogs and owners was clear. And he loves what he does. Ella is not a particularly difficult dog but she had developed a couple of habits which impacted on the enjoyment of our walks. A change of leads and Ella going back into a harness has made things so much easier for us both and I can adapt to any unexpected issues that arise more confidently. I have Jim to thank for that and we now have a happier airedale. I would recommend Jim to any dog owner who needs help with their dogs' behaviours.

Bisou started training with Michelle at about 4 months old via Amanda Gagnon Puppy Kindergarten program and it was amazing! She met her first new puppy friends there and I received the support and education I needed to help Bisou grow into a well adjusted and confident puppy. We loved the trainings and Michelle's approach so much, upon graduation we enrolled in adolescents day school for continued support + socialization for Bisou. Andrea Arden Dog Training was the biggest and best step forward for my pup Jasper and me. As a very young rescue, my pup needed guidance in puppy socialization and confidence building, as well as a job to play hard at. Jessica changed our lives! We came to instinct because of Winnie’s major fear reactivity and overall anxiety about the world. When we started we could barely go outside without Winnie reacting to something and it being really stressful for both of us. Jessica gave us both tools and confidence to move through the world together. 2 years later and Winnie is doing things I never thought imaginable for her. Going on hikes, taking vacations, running on the beach, happily meeting new people and dogs! Of course it’s still something we work hard for everyday, but we do it with confidence!
