Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Philadelphia's customer reviews analysis

The reviews for Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Philadelphia offer a mixed perspective on the overall company reputation and customer experience. While individual therapists like Moira McCormick, Justin M, Justin MacDonald, and Robert Kuehl receive high praise for their compassion, expertise, and effectiveness, the company's administrative aspects receive substantial criticism. Clients express satisfaction with the therapy received, underscoring the qualifications and positive impact of their therapists. However, there are significant recurring issues with the billing department, such as unexpected charges, failure to submit insurance claims, and uncommunicated provider network status changes. Additionally, frustration is evident concerning inflexible cancellation policies and perceived poor customer service, particularly during telephone interactions. The therapists' turnover rate also raises concerns about consistency in patient care. Despite these operational drawbacks, the therapists' professional skills and the firm's convenient telehealth options are noteworthy positive elements.

Positive Feedback

Positive feedback for Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Philadelphia largely centers on the quality of care provided by individual therapists. Clients have lauded therapists for their compassionate, understanding, and direct approach to counseling, highlighting their capacity to listen actively, ask pertinent questions, and deliver person-centered, evidence-based support. Therapists like Robert Kuehl and Moira McCormick have been specifically mentioned for their pivotal roles in clients' mental health improvements, providing effective coping tools and fostering better interpersonal communication. Furthermore, clients appreciate the convenience and ease of scheduling through the telehealth platform offered by Thriveworks.

Concerns and Threads

Negative feedback for Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Philadelphia stems primarily from problematic non-clinical experiences. Clients report serious discontent with the billing department, marked by unexpected charges, unsatisfactory communication, and lengthy resolution times for erroneous billing. Issues with insurance claim handling, such as failure to notify clients of in-network provider status changes, contribute to client frustration. Additionally, inflexibility in the company's cancellation policy is a recurring theme, especially when unforeseen circumstances, such as internet outages, prevent attendance. The suggested alternative of conducting therapy in public places such as coffee shops is considered by clients as insensitive and impractical. These administrative inefficiencies and customer service shortfalls stand in stark contrast to the commendable clinical services provided by the therapists.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. My experience with my therapists through Thriveworks has only been positive, which is why it is upsetting to leave this review. I greatly appreciated everything my therapists did for me. However, Thriveworks as a whole is awful. My experience with customer service and with Amanda over the phone was one of the worst I’ve experienced. I called as my wifi went out for the next 24 hours and I had a therapy appointment later that day. I found out that Thriveworks 48-hour cancellation policy is rigid, unfair, and nonsensical. Amanda only made matters worse by repeatedly asking me to clarify the issue. Putting me on hold over and over in order to check things with her manager. The issue was simple: I had no wifi, so I could not make my online appointment over Zoom. However, I was told that no matter what, if I did cancel, I would have to pay the $135 cancellation fee. It seemed that no matter how serious the issue or what happened in your life, you would still be expected to pay this fee. When I pointed out that my hotspot doesn’t work in my home and that I had no way to log into my virtual, online appointment, Amanda suggested I go to a public place where I could get wifi. Like a coffee shop. Because, yes, a La Colombe is my favorite place to open up emotionally. It’s so absurd it is almost hilarious that a therapy service could be so obtuse when it comes to patients’s lives. I suggest going elsewhere if you want to be treated with an ounce of respect or dignity.

Please please please DO NOT use Thriveworks. Their billing department is a mess and there’s absolutely no communication & they are constantly lying to clients. They charged my credit card hundreds of dollars without notice and did not even attempt to submit a claim to my provided in-network insurance. After at least 5 phone calls with them with different people telling me completely different things, I am still waiting for a refund months later. Not to mention, their cancellation fees are ridiculous for very average services. Please save yourself countless hours on the phone and money you probably will never get back from a billing department who claims to do work they are not doing. This is not how a business who should be helping clients in distress, should run. They do not care about you here

I love the therapists I worked with, however, the billing practices of Thriveworks are horrible. Somehow my provider was no longer in network, but I was not notified of this change. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday getting this straightened out. It took having a conference call with my insurance and Thriveworks (who transferred the call multiple times) to determine that the provider they had assured me was in network is no longer in network. Previously, they had overcharged my credit card and took weeks to refund the money. They don't seem to treat their therapists very well, which makes me sad. This means that therapists don't stay with the practice, and you as the patient are left to find someone new (who will also leave). The telehealth options are convenient, but plenty of other places offer that service now. Thankfully, thriveworks did stop the practice of charging a "membership fee" because so many people opted out of it (if they do try to charge this fee, there is a waiver form you can request). Save your time and money and go to literally any other mental health practice.
