I recently had the pleasure of working with McEwan Fraser Legal as a first-time buyer, and I cannot recommend their services highly enough. My purchase was somewhat complex, as it involved gifted funds from abroad and the additional considerations of being a non-UK citizen. From the outset, the team demonstrated exceptional professionalism, expertise, and dedication. My initial enquiry was handled by Finlay Smith, who provided a comprehensive overview of the purchasing process and promptly addressed all of my questions and concerns. As I was based abroad during my property search, Finlay introduced me to James Milne, who serves as a Buyer Agent. Although I initially declined this service due to budget constraints, both Finlay and James offered to speak with me further and clearly outlined the value of the support provided. After our conversation, I was confident that this would be a worthwhile investment—and it absolutely was. James Milne’s contribution was instrumental in guiding me through the Edinburgh property market. He offered insightful advice on suitable areas and provided detailed assessments of properties I was interested in. For each property, he reviewed the home report, evaluated the overall condition and value, and then arranged viewings which he attended on my behalf. Through video calls, I was able to participate in viewings remotely, which made the process feel personal and efficient despite the distance. His deep knowledge of the market, strategic guidance on offer pricing, and unwavering availability for questions gave me great confidence in the property I ultimately chose. Once my offer was accepted, I was referred to Barry Haq, who managed the conveyancing process. Barry was consistently prompt, thorough, and professional in his communications. He liaised effectively with the sellers' solicitors and ensured all necessary documentation was carefully reviewed and explained. He also demonstrated great patience in accommodating the timing of my responses, which I greatly appreciated. In summary, although McEwan Fraser Legal's fees may be slightly higher than average, the level of service, attention to detail, and client-focused approach fully justify the cost. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure my experience as a first-time international buyer was smooth, informed, and ultimately successful.

We first contacted McEwan Fraser when we were given notice of the closing date for a property we were very keen to offer on. We emailed on a Sunday to ask for a quotation of fees, and a few hours later had a phone call from James to discuss the offer and conveyancing process and fee structure. After finding out we were successful, Gemma Hayward was assigned to our case, and has been incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in a friendly and accessible way. She has answered all of our questions in a way we could understand, and guided us through the whole process perfectly. She gave us confidence that the purchase would proceed smoothly, and on time - which it did! Even although Gemma was off sick on the day before completing the sale, she was in touch via email towards the end of that day, answering our questions and working on the last few details needed. We moved into our new property on the west coast last week. We now plan to have McEwan Fraser help us with our wills, and would recommend them (especially Gemma!) for any issue.
