Ewa Majdak-Paredes's customer reviews analysis

Spire Murrayfield Hospital's reputation in Edinburgh emerges decidedly strong from the recent reviews, striking a generally positive tone in terms of quality of care, professionalism, and facility standards. Customers repeatedly laud the meticulous attention to detail, empathy, and the bespoke approach to care provided by the hospital personnel, ranging from surgeons to the reception staff. Patients note the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, the quality of the meals provided, and the tranquil environment conducive to recovery. The presence of knowledgeable and dedicated consultants further uplifts the company’s standing. These praiseworthy observations are punctuated by an isolated incident where a patient encountered administrative issues and perceived lack of responsiveness and transparency concerning billing, which somewhat taints the overall positive customer experience narrative. However, the thread of appreciation for staff competence and facility excellence is the dominant narrative, suggesting these shortcomings to be the exception rather than the rule.

Positive Feedback

Key positive aspects revealed in the feedback include the hospital's high standard for patient care that appears to be consistently practiced across departments. Several patients attest to the admirable level of service, describing the care as outstanding and personalized. Scrupulous cleanliness, both of the patients' personal rooms and the hospital at large, and quality of meals are frequently mentioned, contributing to the overall satisfaction. Notably, the staff's professionalism and friendliness are commended, from the surgeons' proficient management to the comforting presence of nurses and support staff. The swift arrangement of necessary procedures like MRIs, as well as the smooth admission and discharge processes, also earn high praise, illustrating an efficient operational workflow. These attributes collectively highlight a well-facilitated healing environment and a team well-versed in patient-centered care.

Concerns and Threads

On the negative side, customer feedback highlights specific challenges and dissatisfactions that merit attention. A notable concern arose from a patient who reported a troubling scenario regarding billing protocols and communication with the administrative department. Frustration stemmed from apparently being ignored after making inquiries about a billing discrepancy with an insurance claim. Such an experience hints at a potential systemic issue within administrative processes, undermining trust and unsettling the patient involved. Additionally, a separate account of dissatisfaction is recounted by a patient who faced what they perceived as dismissive post-operative care following an ankle surgery that did not meet their expectations for recovery. Both incidents suggest a need for improvement in communication and patient aftercare services.

I was at Spire Murrayfield so many times for various health issues over the past couple of years that I lost count of my appointments. I went through everything from MRIs, to various samples and tests, to anesthesia + surgery, talked to wonderful doctors, nurses, pharmacists, reception staff... After all of it, I could not be more convinced of this hospital's fantastic standards and quality of care. Thank you for making me feel at ease and well taken care of throughout. When going through complicated and frightening diagnoses & treatment, it's so reassuring to know you're in competent hands.

As a patient who has used Spire Murrayfield several times in the past through my previous employer's private medical cover, I had a good idea of what to expect about the level of care I'd receive. However, my already high expectations were vastly exceeded during my most recent stay (which was paid for privately, now that I no longer have private medical care through my employer). From the moment of my first consultation and promptly arranged MRI procedure through to the admission, surgical, and discharge procedures, I'm absolutely delighted with my experience. I received an outstanding level of care; the hospital facilities are immaculate (my room and bathroom were spotlessly clean), the choice of meals (and quality of food) was excellent, and the hospital staff are considerate and quiet at night, which meant I was able to get some sleep between having my OBS taken during the night. Every single member of staff made me feel as though I was their only patient; nothing was too much trouble for them, and they took excellent care of me. My surgeon, Mr. Robert Clayton, and my anaesthetist, Mr. Gavin Simpson, were attentive, and provided tailored care. They presumably had other patients yet I, once again, felt as though I was their only patient, and their top priority. Mr. Clayton, in particular, has been on hand to answer questions following my surgery, and has shown such dedicated attentiveness I've never experienced before from a surgeon. Maureen (Mo), who took me to my room and helped me settle in, helped allay my nervousness on the morning of my admission. Emma, the young nurse from Queen Margaret (who was only on days 1 and 2 of placement at the time of my surgery), provided some much-needed light relief, and chatted with me while she took my OBS (yet always remained professional throughout). Debbie, the physiotherapist, explained everything very clearly about wearing my moon boot, and ensured I knew how to move around safely, including how to use stairs when I returned home. Eden, who arranged my discharge, provided me with comprehensive discharge care, and ensured I had all the medications I'd need, as well as a letter for my GP, and a point of contact in case I needed to ask any questions (which I did). The whole team at Spire are exceptional, and I'll confidently return if and when I require private medical care in the future. Apologies to the other amazing staff not mentioned here; they were all wonderful. Spire: please could you pass on my comments and my sincerest thanks to your staff? They deserve to be paid their weight in gold, as the level of care they provide is exceptional, and truly second-to-none. Photos of my meals and me in my moon boot, as they were the only photos I took during my stay.

Terrible. I had an ultrasound scan on my kidneys which was covered by my medical insurance, once I gave my details about the insurance, I was then sent a letter saying Spire will take £500 from my account for the scan, after I emailed them asking why I need to pay since my insurance will cover it, I was then told by Spire that they can't find any of my details on their system?! I have sent them three emails the past three days asking why none of my details are on their system but they are ignoring me. I will NOT be paying you, you are pretty much scamming people at this point.
