Brooklyn Conservatory Of Music's customer reviews analysis

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (BCM) appears to be a well-regarded institution delivering a range of musical education services appreciated by many in the community. Positive sentiments focus on the quality of the facilities, which include pristine practice rooms with fine instruments, as well as the welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment, evidenced by commendations of the venue's historical charm and garden area. Furthermore, there is much appreciation for BCM's adaptability in offering virtual events and remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the predominantly favorable outlook, there are customer grievances highlighting a perceived communication gap with the institution's administration, specifically regarding tuition changes without proper notification. Moreover, there's a sense among some reviewers that the conservatory may not be wholly suited for advanced or serious musicians seeking a high-end professional environment, which suggests a potential mismatch between the institution's offerings and the expectations of a segment of its clientele.

Enthusiastic descriptions of its environment - both physical and social - frequently occur, suggesting a welcoming, kind-hearted staff, and a well-organized establishment. The conservatory is perceived as a community hub where music enthusiasts can access quality resources, including affordable practice rooms equipped with a Steinway piano and a slate of engaging events such as chamber music concerts. Customers appreciate the serene beauty of the building's garden area and its historical aura, highlighted by an impressive wood staircase and photographs of past musicians. The institution's adaptation to online platforms for lessons and performances during the COVID-19 pandemic is also commended. For many, the BCM is seen as a vibrant center of music education, especially for youth and initial learners, with its experienced teachers receiving particular acclaim for their dedication to the students.

Concerns and Threads

Some criticisms are recurrent in the reviews of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, hinting at certain operational shortcomings that may affect the institution's overall reputation. A primary concern centers around administrative communication, with grievances detailing an apparent lack of transparency and responsiveness, especially in matters of tuition and financial communication. Some reviewers relayed feelings of indifference projected by the front office, with one citing a lack of follow-through on promised contact for feedback after withdrawal. There is also criticism about the suitability of BCM's courses for advanced musicians, with explicit accounts of the curriculum being mismatched to an attendee’s skill level despite prior assurances. For adult students especially, there is a sentiment that they may not be treated with the seriousness afforded to younger students, which could be considered exclusionary and discouraging for those looking to pursue music more seriously.

Truly special place for music. Kind and beautiful people staffing here. We had a practice room with a beautiful Steinway piano for $17/ hour on a Friday. The school is spotless and has many resources for seeking out chamber music concerts and other avenues that you might need. A Brooklyn treasure.

A true delight to visit the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, either for classes, private lessons, concerts, or to enjoy a relaxing moment in their magnificent garden entry area. During COVID, many virtual events are available, as well as remote lessons and learning. Music inspires, and so does the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and their building is a real gem.

First of all (for non US citizens) Conservatory doesn’t mean the school offers a high end, professional environment. This is more a school for children and beginners. However, I took part in the Summer-Jazz course. Beforehand I got in touch with the school, explaining my level (bachelor degree in jazz) and what environment I am looking for. Their answer was: „This course will suit you perfectly“ - which wasn’t the reality. After the first day I confronted the organiser and asked for a refund, which I never got. RCB just be honest with people! For me it was a waste of money and time!
