Islington Tennis Centre and Gym's customer reviews analysis

The reviews for Islington Tennis Centre and Gym reveal a mixed perspective on the company's reputation and customer experience. Customers appreciate the variety of sports facilities offered, such as indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a gym, sauna, and provisions for blind tennis and accessibility. However, there are notable grievances regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the venue, particularly the men’s changing room and toilet facilities described as 'disgusting' and 'unhygienic'. Operational issues include the limited availability of facilities, like early sauna closure times not reflected in the membership cost, and difficulties in booking courts leading to overcrowded sessions. Customer service has been criticized, with reports of unprofessionalism and allegations of discriminatory behavior by a staff member. These negative experiences contribute to a sentiment that competing gyms may offer more value, prompting some customers to consider switching providers.

Positive Feedback

Positive customer feedback for Islington Tennis Centre and Gym centers around the availability and quality of its sporting facilities. The venue is recognized for having a suitable indoor environment for tennis, accommodating last-minute bookings, and having a friendly and helpful staff. In particular, customers highlight the six indoor tennis courts, two outdoor courts, and the unique offering of Blind Tennis sessions. The gym and sauna facilities are acknowledged as added amenities, contributing to a holistic fitness and leisure experience. In addition, the center's accessibility features and its proximity to Caledonia Park enhance its appeal for customers looking for a comprehensive recreational space.

Concerns and Threads

Key negative aspects of customer feedback focus on the maintenance, hygiene, and management inefficiencies at Islington Tennis Centre and Gym. Clients have reported cleanliness issues in the men's changing rooms and toilets, as well as blocked drains. Facility access times have been cut, specifically the sauna's operating hours, without a corresponding reduction in membership fees. Moreover, management practices have been called into question over the overbooking of tennis sessions and underutilization of available courts. Customer service has also been criticized, with instances of unprofessional conduct by a staff member leading to customer discomfort and allegations of discriminatory behavior. The center's cost-effectiveness compared to competitors is debated, as some customers perceive better value in alternative gyms with less expensive fees and superior equipment.

This gym is decent , but it's going downhill, the suana used to be open most of the day till ten as the gym is open till 11 , now the sauna is open till 9 and it closes for about 4 hours in the day time, this has not been reflected in the cost of our membership. Also the cleanliness of the facility is not so good I've added pics of thr mens changing room where some last of the drain came up from the floor after someone accidentally tripped on it ... The drain in the men's changing room seems to be blocked. GLL need to do better with thier gyms and saunas as most budget gyms have better equipment just no pool or sauna, but the state of the pools and saunas in gll gyms are become so poor that its not worth paying the extra fees and they are hardly open these days which means they are packed when they are open. Islington set the prices of the gym so I can't blame GLL for everything. But i have a membership for thegymgroup now so will likely cancel my gll if they don't improve soon

The indoor courts are great. However, I personally had a really weird and unpleasant experience. A coach from Islington tennis centre has organised these Sunday tennis groups for advanced players. I attended a ‘trial’ and was then told to join the Sunday team and continue playing on Sundays. This was meant to be done alongside also joining the centre. I then went away on holiday and upon returning the coach that is in charge of these groups ghosted me and never responded to my enquiry about whether the Sunday tennis training will be happening at the same time. This was a very unpleasant interaction. Very unprofessional, inconsiderate and, to be honest, very rude. Not a good look on the centre in my view. Decided not to enquire again and will not be joining or trying to play tennis at this centre anymore. Have decided to play elsewhere.
